Non-Construction
Most people think of swinging a hammer when they think about volunteering for Habitat. Due to the tremendous amount of planning and management required to build just one home, we have a constant need for committee members and volunteers to help with various other tasks. Many of our younger volunteers (under the age of 16) and families who'd like to volunteer together opt to help out here... You don't need to be an expert in any of these fields to help out! There are many tasks that require only a willingness to learn and work with others.
Listed below are some of the non-construction volunteer opportunities.
| Committees |
 |
- Members for Committees —
We have many committees which often need assistance or new committee members. Please visit our Committees page for more information about each of our committees.
| Office/Clerical/Teaching |
 |
- Workshop Leaders —
Also needed are volunteers with extensive knowledge in plumbing, electrical, heating/venting, etc. that would be willing to teach staff and perhaps conduct monthly workshops.
- Media, Newsletter, Press —
For anyone interested in writing for the newsletter, issuing press releases, making contact with local media, etc. No experience necessary - just enthusiasm! Contact the Volunteer Coordinator if you're a candidate.
- Office Assistance —
We are always looking for folks to assist in mailings, answering the phone, and other general office activities.
| ReStore — Retail Outlet Store |
 |
- ReStore Donations Vehicle Driver —
The ReStore needs volunteers to drive our donations pick-up vehicle one or two days a week usually for 2-4 hours. Sometimes you will need to assist in loading donated materials into the donations vehicle, so the ablility to safely lift 50 lbs is desired.
- ReStore In-store Volunteers —
The ReStore is always looking for volunteers to work in the store. Check the ReStore page on this site for more information.
| Home Store |
 |
- Home Store Receiving Volunteer —
We receive a lot of merchandise that needs to be sorted, lightly cleaned and tested. Volunteers in our receiving area can make our store a worthwhile place to shop by screening incoming items before getting them to the showroom floor. Anyone with a good eye can help out by rejecting or disposing of items donated that are stained, broken, or too dirty to sell. This can require informing the giver that the items cannot be accepted due to their bad condition. Volunteers receive donations from customers, check them to make sure they are clean and work, thank the giver and pass them on for pricing. Some items may need folding and packaging. All of these steps are important to providing good quality to Home Store customers and earning money to help our homebuyers.
- Pricing Volunteer —
Before items go on the floor, a pricing volunteer will clearly mark the items for sale, paying attention to the value of the item and pricing them accordingly.
- Showroom Volunteer —
Showroom volunteers sort items and stock shelves so customers can easily see and reach items, and check for pricing. They also assist customers by answering questions and finding items. If you are fit we really appreciate volunteers who can move bigger merchandise to the sales area or assist customers with placing merchandise in their vehicle.
