Youth Opportunities
Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West (HFHSTW) welcomes and depends upon volunteers to help support our mission to build homes, community and hope for west St. Tammany Parish. Since 1981, HFHSTW volunteers have helped to build over 200 homes and served over 400 families in west St. Tammany. In addition to the actual construction of homes for volunteers ages 16 and up, and retail work in the ReStore for ages 14 and up, HFHSTW believes that the youth (ages 5-25) of our community are a key element to the future fulfillment of our mission. With this in mind, HFHSTW has developed a Youth Opportunities Booklet to provide samples of creative activities and programs which engage and retain youth involvement and support.
The following is just a sampling of some of the creative solutions Habitat for Humanity affiliates nationwide have utilized to engage youth. Through these activities youth, both under the age of 16 and over, are truly able to develop an understanding and engage in furthering the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
Activities are targeted to different age ranges: there are activities for children as young as five and some activities and lesson plans that would work for collegiate students. The activities listed include:
• classroom lesson plans,
• crafts,
• fundraising ideas,
• building projects and
• ways to raise awareness in the community.

While the list is long, Habitat for Humanity STW is always looking for new ideas for youth to understand and join our mission. We encourage you to contact Katie Kumprey, Development Assistant, with any question or comments at email or by calling 985-893-3172, ext. 230.
